5G Conference 2023 – meet HaDEA-managed projects working on digital services

EU 5G conference

The 5G Conference, taking place in Brussels on 13-14 March, is an annual event that gathers policymakers, industry stakeholders on key themes such as investment, security, sustainability, emerging business models and connectivity.

Discover some of the HaDEA-managed Horizon 2020 projects working on digital services.

H2020 projects:

MORPHEMIC is adapting and optimising cloud computing in two dimensions, with the idea of polymorph architecture, and a proactive adaptation. The project ensures the heterogeneous deployment through a MORPHEMIC deployment platform. Its environment will offer a combination of cloud levels, data centres, edge clouds and 5G base stations to provide a complete solution for easy inclusion of new technologies and services.

ACCORDION suggests a practical approach in connecting edge resources and infrastructures to support next-generation applications. The project builds on the idea that by associating edge computing with advanced technologies such as 5G, the EU will be able to capitalise on its own resources and infrastructure, and bring benefits to its SMEs.

ARtwin project aims to develop an Augmented Reality (AR) cloud platform to improve productivity and product quality of the European industry and construction 4.0. Based on 5G connectivity, the AR cloud platform will enable collaborative AR experiences adapted to factory and construction site environments.

POETICS aims to develop high-capacity Multi-Chip Modules comprising novel Terabit optical engines and optical switches, together with digital switches. POETICS will focus on minimising the electrical interconnect distance between the optical engine and the digital switching chip, and on removing signal conditioning chips and unwanted components.

Background Information

Horizon 2020 was the EU’s multiannual funding programme between 2014 and 2020. H2020 provided Research and Innovation (R&I) funding for multi-national collaboration projects alongside individual researchers and SMEs via special funding instruments. Horizon 2020 was replaced by the Horizon Europe Programme, which will run until 2027.

The 5G Conference consists of keynote presentations, panel sessions and face to face meetings. The rollout of 5G in Europe is gathering pace, with more than 100 5G networks now having launched across 34 markets.
