Advanced chemicals and materials are necessary for innovative products. However, their design, development, and production must also be safe and sustainable to achieve the transition to a sustainable economy and society.
In that perspective, the European Commission has developed a voluntary approach to guide the innovation process for chemicals and materials - the 'safe and sustainable by design' (SSbD) framework. In addition, platforms integrating materials’ data management, modelling, characterisation and harnessing machine learning and automation have the potential to accelerate substantially the design, development and upscaling of new advanced materials.
The EU-funded project DigiPass is thus harmonising and synergising collected materials’ data sources and digital infrastructures, in order to enable interoperability of data exchange, and standardisation of advanced materials’ knowledge representation. The overarching key result of DigiPass is to create a sustainable platform which includes support for Digital Materials & Product Passport (DMPP) and for collaborative innovation-by-design processes in a circular economy served by advanced materials. A business model for operating such a platform completes the overarching objective. With a focus on health and safety, DigiPass is organising an online workshop on 10 February 2025 to present the specific requirements and benefits of the DMPP in the domain of nanosafety. The workshop will cover information requirements across the nanomaterial value chains and analyse the benefits for nanosafety stakeholders.
Do not miss the chance to discover how a nanomaterial digital passport can benefit health and safety.
Background
Horizon 2020 the EU’s multiannual funding programme between 2014 and 2020. H2020 provided Research and Innovation (R&I) funding for multi-national collaboration projects alongside individual researchers and SMEs via special funding instruments. Horizon 2020 is succeeded by Horizon Europe Programme, which will run until 2027.
