The Smart City Expo World Congress (SCEWC) 2025 will take place from 4 to 6 November in Barcelona, bringing together global leaders, policymakers, and innovators to shape the future of urban living. Since 2011, the event has been the world’s leading platform for cities and urban innovation.
The European Health and Digital Executive Agency (HaDEA) will join the European Commission booth (Hall 2, Booth D101), presenting a range of EU-funded projects driving digital transformation in areas such as 5G safety, healthcare, rural innovation, education, and urban development.
HaDEA representatives will also take part in key sessions, including a projects presentation on 4 November (11.00–11.30), a panel with Head of Unit Hervé Dupuy on “Delivering Innovation for Inclusive, Resilient, and Circular Communities” (People First Stage, Hall 2 - 4 November, 14.05–14.50), and a talk by Director Marina Zanchi on “EU Drives Smart City Innovation with 5G” (Impact Tech Stage, Hall 2- 5 November, 14.50–15.10).
Discover the HaDEA-managed projects participating at SCEWC 2025 and how they contribute to building smarter, more connected, and sustainable communities across Europe.
Safer cities with 5G
Projects such as 5G4LIVES and 5G-SAMITEA show how advanced 5G connectivity can strengthen public safety and emergency management. From using drones for real-time monitoring and rescue operations in Latvia and Italy to deploying a 5G network at Sofia Airport for faster response to critical situations, these initiatives demonstrate how technology can protect citizens, improve situational awareness, and enhance crisis coordination.
Next-generation hospitals
HaDEA-managed projects including 5G-SHEAL, 5G-PHINGE, 5G-TRACE, and 5G-ENRICH are transforming healthcare delivery through private 5G networks. Their innovations support high-precision surgery, remote mentoring, medical imaging, asset tracking, and even drone-based logistics. By enabling secure, low-latency communication within hospitals and campuses, these projects enhance patient safety, streamline operations, and advance Europe’s digital health transition.
Rural innovation
Through initiatives such as Smart Mountain 5G, CC5G, 5G-CDD, and 5G-TERRA, 5G connectivity is reaching remote and rural regions. These projects enable smarter energy and water management, sustainable agriculture, and more resilient local services. By closing the connectivity gap, they boost local economies, improve safety, and ensure equal access to digital opportunities for all European communities.
Education
Projects including PV5G, TUKE, and 5GMetro are bringing 5G innovation into learning environments. From immersive digital classrooms and telepresence robots to smart logistics and energy management on university campuses, these initiatives show how connectivity and edge technologies can make education more interactive, inclusive, and sustainable, empowering the next generation of digital talent.
Urban development
The SmartSpires project addresses the challenge of digital connectivity in European cities. By deploying a dense 5G and Edge AI network at Luxembourg’s Belval Campus, it supports smart mobility, crowd analytics, and efficient waste management. Through open and interoperable solutions, SmartSpires illustrates how digital infrastructure can drive sustainable urban growth and help cities meet their European Green Deal objectives.
