The EU Cancer Mission Showcase event is taking place from 29 September to 1 October. Marking five years of the EU Cancer Mission, the event is taking stock of the progress made, bringing inspiring discussions and interactive sessions and highlighting innovative developments to improve cancer prevention, early detection, treatment, care and survivorship, in line with Europe's Beating Cancer Plan.
Researchers, clinicians, patients, policymakers, innovators, start-ups, investors and industry leaders from across Europe are gathering for the three-day hybrid event.
The exhibition is also showcasing the work of HaDEA-managed projects funded under the Horizon Europe 'Health' and EU4Health programmes. On Day 1, participants are getting the chance to meet the following projects in the exhibitor corner:
Arturo aims to understand how intratumoural bacteria influence responses to cancer treatments using real patients’ samples and a new technology called “tumour-on-chip.” Arturo contributes to the EU Cancer Mission by improving our understanding of cancer biolology and exploring new ways to treat cancer based on intratumoural bacteria.
Candle is working on the set up of National Cancer Data Nodes in the EU and associated countries in order to improve diagnostics and treatment for cancer patients by providing researchers with improved and cross-border access to larger data sets of better quality.
Discern is working to understand the causes of renal, pancreatic and colorectal cancer in Europe, focusing on the risk factors and considering the geographical distribution of these cancer types.
ECHoS aims to support the implementation of the EU Cancer Mission activities through the establishment and development of Cancer Mission Hubs operating at national, regional and local levels.
Elmumy studies the factors behind a blood cancer called multiple myeloma, for which there is no effective cure due to disease resistance to all available therapeutic approaches.
The European Cancer Information Portal (EU-CIP) project aims to provide reliable and easy-to-access cancer information portals for citizens across Europe, providing people with valuable information regarding cancer – from prevention actions to diagnosis and treatment – so that they can make informed decisions about their life and health.
Genial is investigating the genetic and environmental determinants in alcohol-related liver disease (ADL), the most common cause of liver cirrhosis, hepatocellular carcinoma (HDD) and liver-related deaths in Europe.
Gliomatch is dedicated to pioneering targeted treatments for brain cancer, one of the most lethal cancer types.
HIT-GLIO aims to improve our understanding of tumour-host interactions in paediatric high-grade gliomas (pHGGs) and develop new treatments with the goal of improving clinical outcomes and enhancing the quality of life of patients.
IDEA4RC aims at developing an IT infrastructure to facilitate the sharing and re-use of health data among clinical centers to promote research on rare cancers and improve patients’ access to high-quality care
IMPACT-AML is building a pioneering research framework for relapsed or refractory acute myeloid leukaemia, bringing together clinicians, patients and researchers to advance collaborative innovation.
LUCIA is advancing lung cancer research by identifying new risk factors associated with the development of lung cancer. The project's findings aim to contribute to lung cancer prevention, early detection and the improvement of patients' outcomes and quality of life.
PhotoMel is investigating how early-life UVA exposure and certain skincare ingredients may interact to change the skin and increase the risk of melanoma and its early progression in young adults.
SUNRISE is developing evidence-based smoking prevention tools among adolescents and young adults with innovative approaches including social media campaigns, advertising literacy training, educational games and conversational assistants.
THRIVE focuses on enhancing the outcome of paediatric and adult liver cancer patients by advancing our understanding of the disease, identifying biomarkers for current therapies and developing new treatments to overcome resistance.
TRANSCAN is advancing transnational cancer research with the overall objective of ensuring that research outcomes remain meaningful and responsive to patients' needs.
UNCAN-CONNECT is advancing research on six major cancer types (paediatric, lymphoid, pancreatic, ovarian, lung and prostate) by enabling an open-source platform for secure and ethical access to cancer data.
Background
EU4Health is the fourth and largest of the EU health programmes. The EU4Health programme goes beyond an ambitious response to the COVID-19 crisis to address the resilience of European healthcare systems. The programme provides funding to national authorities, health organisations and other bodies through grants and public procurement, contributing to a healthier Europe.
HaDEA manages the vast majority of the total EU4Health budget and implements the programme by managing calls for proposals and tenders from 2021 to 2027.
Horizon Europe is the research and innovation programme of the EU for the period 2021-2027. The aims of Cluster 1 ‘Health’ include improving and protecting the health and well-being of citizens of all ages by generating new knowledge, developing innovative solutions and integrating where relevant a gender perspective to prevent, diagnose, monitor, treat and cure diseases. Horizon 2020 (H2020) was the EU’s multiannual funding programme between 2014 and 2020.
