HaDEA’s project CIRPASS to feature at COP27 session with their concept of Digital Product Passport

HaDEA's project CIRPASS at COP27

COP27 session “Innovation to serve enhanced circularity” will feature HaDEA’s project CIRPASS to highlight the Digital Product Passport (DPP) as an example of how digital innovation can provide services and tools leading to circular models and sustainable products.

The session will take place on November 11 from 16.00 to 17.00 (EET) and will be broadcast through the UGIH YouTube channel. Ilias Iakovidis, DG CNECT, will give the opening speech for the session and the coordinator of the EU CIRPASS project, Carolyn Bernier, will be part of the panel.

DPP provides consistent and digital product-related information including data on sustainability and circularity performance, crucial for enabling the EU’s transition to a circular economy. The need for such passport is expressed in the European Green Deal and the new Circular Economy Action Plan (CEAP).

The project

Funded under the Digital Europe Programme and managed by HaDEA, the project CIRPASS brings together a core network of leading organisations in building the European vision for a unified Digital Product Passport (DPP) approach across multiple value chains.

CIRPASS (Collaborative Initiative for a Standards-based Digital Product Passport for Stakeholder-Specific Sharing of Product Data for a Circular Economy) aims to prepare the ground for the gradual piloting and deployment of the DPPs from 2023 onwards, with an initial focus on the electronics, batteries and textile sectors.

The project kicked-off in October 2022 with a hybrid meeting in Brussels. With a consortium of 30 partners representing a large number of industrial, digital, international, standards and regulatory organisations and NGOs across Europe, the project will work to create a clear concept of the DPP, define a cross-sectoral product data model with demonstrated benefits for the circular economy and develop roadmaps for its deployment.

Background

The Digital Europe Programme (DEP) aims to build the strategic digital capacities of the EU and to facilitate the wide deployment of digital technologies. With an overall budget of €7.5 billion, out of which €0.8 billion is managed by HaDEA, the programme will support investments in the following sectors:

  • High Performance Computing
  • Cloud, data and Artificial Intelligence
  • Cybersecurity
  • Advanced digital skills
  • Accelerating best use of technologies
