Testing the feasibility of a European monitoring system on reformulation initiatives for salt, sugars and fat

study monitoring sugar, salt,fat

A study has been published that tests the feasibility of a European monitoring system on reformulation initiatives for salt, sugars and fat.

Reformulating foods by reducing the presence of harmful ingredients, including salt, sugar and saturated fat, improves their nutritional value. Thus, reformulation initiatives play a key role in public health and should be further studied.

The EUREMO study (EU REformulation Monitoring) was commissioned by HaDEA under the 3rd health programme to:

  • Develop and test a monitoring system for assessing the impact of reformulation initiatives on salt, sugar and fat;
  • Provide support to national public authorities to implement reformulation initiatives.

Evidence gathered involved nutritional information and data on almost 47 000 products consumed by European citizens.

Check out the results of the study.
