Horizon Europe Cluster 4 - Industry aims to boost the EU industry’s resilience, growth and competitiveness, and to support it through the twin digital and green transitions. HaDEA manages scientific projects under the following destinations:

  • “Climate neutral, circular and digitised production”
  • “Increased autonomy in key strategic value chains for resilient industry”

We should harness this transformative power of the twin digital and climate transition to strengthen our own industrial base and innovation potential

Ursula von der Leyen, President of the European Commission

Destination 1: Climate neutral, circular and digitised production

The destination “Climate neutral, circular and digitised production” aims at accelerating the twin green and digital transitions and is key to building a lasting and prosperous European growth.

Topics in this destination lead to global leadership in clean and climate-neutral industrial value chains, circular economy and climate-neutral digital systems and infrastructures (networks, data centres). This is achieved through:

  • Innovative production;
  • Manufacturing processes and their digitisation;
  • New business models;
  • Sustainable-by-design advanced materials;
  • Green and digital technologies;

Destination 2: Increased autonomy in key strategic value chains for resilient industry

The destination “Increased autonomy in key strategic value chains for resilient industry” tackles missing segments in strategic areas and value chains to strengthen the EU’s industrial base, to boost its competitiveness and strategic autonomy. In addition, it explores how circularity has the potential to increase the strategic autonomy of EU’s industry through a more efficient use of resources and secondary raw materials (in particular, critical raw materials).

Topics in this destination lead to industrial leadership and increased autonomy in key strategic value chains with security of supply in raw materials. This is achieved through:

  • R&I activities focusing on four areas key for the resilience of EU industry:
    • Raw materials
    • Advanced materials
    • Circular value chains
    • Preparedness of businesses/SMEs/startups

These activities are managed in close collaboration with the European Commission Directorate-general for Internal Market, Industry, Entrepreneurship and SMEs - responsible for the EU raw materials policy - and the European Commission Directorate-general for Research & Innovation in charge for the latter three areas. On raw materials, there is also a close relation and collaboration with the EIT Raw Materials.

Destination 6: A human-centred and ethical development of digital and industrial technologies

This destination will support EU objectives of inclusiveness, by supporting a human-centred approach to technology development that is aligned with European social and ethical values, as well as sustainability.

Topics in this destination set out a credible pathway contributing to a human-centred and ethical development of digital and industrial technologies. This is achieved through a two-way engagement in the development of technologies, empowering end-users and workers, and supporting social innovation.
