Description

This call will support deployment of large-scale 5G SA infrastructures integrating connectivity and edge cloud capacities along the 3C Network value chain. Each pilot is expected to maximise the number of use cases enabled by 5G systems in areas such as healthcare, agriculture, manufacturing, education, mobility, and transport.

For the purposes of the call, 5G large-scale pilots are defined as the combined deployment and take-up of 5G standalone networks (5G SA), including their integration with edge computing capacities, that meet the very stringent requirements of innovative use cases in terms of very-high reliability, security, low latency, communication symmetry, and high throughput.

The financial support will occur in two phases:

  • Grant call for proposals supporting 5G SA connectivity large-scale pilots involving one or more of the above-mentioned use cases.
  • InvestEU operations to leverage private investments and further support additional 5G SA projects with greater scale and scope, eventually targeting 5G SA applications for digitally intensive enterprises and industry.

5G large scale pilots – 5G coverage along transport corridors – Works

Large-scale 5G pilots can be deployed along key European transport paths and the TEN-T network corridors. The priority will be to support investments in cross-border sections involving two or more Member States.

5G large scale pilots – 5G and Edge for Smart Communities – Works

5G Large-scale pilots for advancing the 3C Network will have to demonstrate the benefits of evolving current network infrastructures towards virtualized and cloud-native solutions. This will include the development of 5G standalone (SA) networks and their integration with edge cloud infrastructures, enabling innovative applications across various European sectors, as well as social innovations such as new operational models and roles for stakeholders and public services.
