9th IEEE World Forum on Internet of Things 2023 – meet HaDEA-managed projects at the event

Representatives from HaDEA-managed projects to take part in the premier global event in the field of Internet of Things

9th IEEE World Forum on Internet of Things

The 9th IEEE World Forum on Internet of Things takes place in Aveiro, Portugal at the Aveiro Congress Centre from 12 to 27 October. The theme for WFIoT 2023 is "The Blue Planet: A Marriage of Sea and Space”. IEEE WFIoT2023 brings together experts in IoT from around the world and the diverse community of stakeholders that make up the IoT ecosystem. Among them will be representatives from three Horizon 2020 and Horizon Europe projects managed by HaDEA:

On 16 October at 11.00, Carlos Enrique Palau and Wieslaw Pawlowski will present a paper about the project in the session on “Future Platforms for Cloud-Edge Continuum”.

On 26 October at 17.00, Carlos Enrique Palau will participate in the vertical panel 4 “Artificial Intelligence and Machine Learning”.

The projects:

  • ASSIST-IoT is developing an open, decentralised reference architecture, associated enablers, services and tools to assists human-centric applications in multiple verticals. The proposed solution integrates AI-based functions transferring intelligence closer to the edge (data sources), including devices.
  • COGNIFOG is building a cognitive fog framework to tackle the challenge of limited network capacities due to data generation. By analysing data at the periphery of the network, closer to the data source or computing devices, network traffic will be reduced, thereby leading to more energy-efficient IT systems with lower latency.
  • CODECO is working to achieve a smoother and more flexible support of services across the Edge-Cloud continuum by creating a novel, cognitive Edge-Cloud management framework. It is developing an ecosystem of open-source toolkits, large-scale experimentation, training tools and events, use-cases across 4 vertical domains (Smart Cities, Energy, Manufacturing, Smart Buildings).

Background

Horizon 2020 was the EU’s multiannual funding programme between 2014 and 2020. H2020 provided Research and Innovation (R&I) funding for multi-national collaboration projects alongside individual researchers and SMEs via special funding instruments. Horizon 2020 is being continued by the Horizon Europe Programme, which will run until 2027.

Since 2014, the Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers (IEEE) brings the latest from the research and academic community. It includes a broad program of papers and presentations on the latest technology developments and innovations in the fields and disciplines that drive the utility and vitality of IoT solutions and applications. From Seoul to Limerick, the IEEE tries to gather input from around the world.
