EU4Health call for tenders to speed up the development of and access to innovative medical countermeasures: metagenomic sequencing for universal pathogen detection

HaDEA has published the call for tenders HADEA/2024/CPN/0021 - Speeding up the development of and access to innovative medical countermeasures - Point-of-care metagenomic sequencing for universal pathogen detection

This tender calls for the development of a test based on metagenomic next-generation sequencing (mNGS) that can detect any respiratory/airborne viral pathogen, including novel and emerging pathogens, from any human respiratory sample type.

The scope of the call for tenders focuses on: 

  1. Speeding up the development of promising diagnostics that are meant to diagnose/detect, prevent, protect from, or treat conditions associated to serious cross-border health threats; 
  2. The acquisition of the priority right to purchase to ensure access to the investigational medicinal products (IMPs) and products. 

Estimated ceiling: €24 000 000

Background

EU4Health is the fourth and largest of the EU health programmes. The EU4Health programme goes beyond an ambitious response to the COVID-19 crisis to address the resilience of European healthcare systems. The programme provides funding to national authorities, health organisations and other bodies through grants and public procurement, contributing to a healthier Europe.

HaDEA manages the vast majority of the total EU4Health budget and implements the programme by managing calls for proposals and tenders from 2021 to 2027.
