Prior information notice: tender to speed up the development, availability and access to anti-tuberculosis medicines for children

Antimicrobial resistance (AMR) is a major threat to health, which was associated with 5 million deaths globally in 2019 and against which efficient medical countermeasures, including antimicrobials, are lacking. Therefore, promoting access to medicines that could assist in the fight against antimicrobial resistance is essential.

The unavailability of age-appropriate medicines for the treatment of antimicrobial-susceptible paediatric tuberculosis across Europe is a matter of concern. Reduced compliance, unknown effects on treatment outcomes and unpredictable toxicity are potential consequences the current sub-optimal treatment options. Importantly, sub-optimal first-line treatment of tuberculosis increases the risk of the emergence of antimicrobial resistance.

In light of this, HaDEA has published a Prior Information Notice (PIN) for a call for tenders to be funded under the 2023 EU4Health Annual Work Programme. Interested parties are invited to consult TED and eTendering for the possible publication of the contract notice.

HADEA/2023/OP/0052 - PIN "Speed up the development, availability and access to anti-tuberculosis medicines for children"

The subject of this call for tenders is to conclude a service contract for purchasing services to speed up availability and access in the EU to age-appropriate anti-tuberculosis medicines. To achieve this goal, the selected contractor will need to carry out clinical and/or non-clinical services for finalising the development and submitting the market authorisation for the concerned products for their commercialisation in the EU.

Background

EU4Health, with a budget of €5.3 billion, is the fourth and largest of the EU health programmes. The EU4Health programme goes beyond an ambitious response to the COVID-19 crisis to address the resilience of European healthcare systems. The programme provides funding to national authorities, health organisations and other bodies through grants and public procurement, contributing to a healthier Europe.

HaDEA manages the vast majority of the total EU4Health budget and implements the programme by managing calls for proposals and tenders from 2021 to 2027.
