The EU's Horizon Europe Space Research calls for 2021 and 2022 have been launched. With a total budget of over €200M , the grants will fund projects in 22 topics. Information on the EU Space Research Calls will be presented at the session "Strategic autonomy in developing, deploying and using global space-based infrastructures, services, applications and data 2022" scheduled on 30 November 2021 - 1:30 PM. No registration is required and all sessions will be livestreamed.
Launched on 2 November, the calls will fund projects in 22 topics in areas such as:
- On-orbit operations & transportation;
- Low-cost access to space;
- Copernicus & climate change innovations;
- Electric propulsion;
- Space science & weather.
Cutting-edge technology and science proposals that will help shape the EU space sector by fostering competitiveness and access to space, can be submitted by 16 February 2022.
Feedback on the evaluation of proposals is expected in July 2022.
Horizon Europe (2021 – 2027), the key EU funding programme for research and innovation wants to tackle climate change, help to achieve the UN's Sustainable Development Goals and boost the EU's competitiveness and growth. Space Research is funded with a total grants budget of over 200M€ for 2021 and 2022 within Cluster 4, alongside Digital and Industry topics. The broad areas of intervention for the cluster include, but are not limited to: Manufacturing technologies, key digital technologies, emerging enabling technologies, advanced materials, artificial intelligence and robotics, next-generation internet, advanced computing and big data, circular industries, low carbon and clean industries and space - including earth observation.
