Previous research programme Horizon 2020

Horizon 2020 (H2020) was the EU’s multiannual funding programme between 2014 and 2020. With a budget of almost €80 billion, it was the EU’s largest Research and Innovation (R&I) programme before Horizon Europe. H2020 provided R&I funding for multi-national collaboration projects as well as for individual researchers and SMEs via special funding instruments.

H2020 was divided in different pillars and other cross-cutting priorities and activities, among these Societal Challenge 1 (SC1) - Heallth, Demographic change and Wellbeing.

Responding to this challenge, R&I under Horizon 2020 constituted an investment in better health for all and contributed to the sustainability of health and care systems. Over the years, SC1 priorities also incorporated a number of emergency actions in response to infectious diseases outbreaks: Ebola, Zika and the COVID-19 pandemic. HaDEA monitors and supports over 500 ongoing or recently completed Horizon 2020 projects.
